Welcome Back and Important Reminders

Welcome Back!
It was a fantastic start for our students in grades 1-4 these last couple of days! Even though it was a wet start, they are making this a great time for getting to know each other and their teachers, learning the routines and expectations, and starting a fun and productive school year. We look forward to having our kindergarten students join us soon!

Special Area Rotation Days A - D and Elementary Menu/Calendar
Parents, There was a mistake on the original Elementary Menu and Calendar. This year, the elementary schools will be using A, B, C and D days to reflect our Special Area rotations. This was not listed correctly on the Elementary Menu/Calendar. The district has now made the change, so please feel free to access and print a new one if need be. You can easily access this calendar by directly visiting Elementary Menu and Calendar

Or going to www.sycamoreschools.org; then go to “Schools”; then select “Blue Ash Elementary”. Next you will click on “For Students” ; select “Menus” and then scroll down to “Sycamore Elementary Breakfast and Lunch Menu (includes special days!)

Important!!!! Final Forms Updates
Parents, it is very important that you log on to Final Forms to verify or update all information on your child(ren)....even if there are no changes from last year. This resource is used to ensure that we have current contact information, emergency medical information, and information regarding transportation to and from school. You must visit Final Forms via the link Final Forms

Or you can go to www.sycamoreschools.org ; link is at the top, right of the page. If you used Final Forms in 2015-2016, you simply need to verify that the information is still correct and make any necessary changes. If you have not used Final Forms in 2015-16, you can create a parent account and fill out the online forms for yourself and your children.

If you do not have access to the internet, you can stop by our front office at any time and access a laptop to complete the process.

Changing how your child is getting home?
We understand that some days your child may need to follow a different dismissal procedure than what they regularly do. If you need to make a change regarding how your child will be getting home, please make sure that you send in the “Parent Communication Form” (available at front counter or you can print them off online). Please DO NOT call after 3:00 with changes to your child’s dismissal unless it is a sudden change or an emergency. This is a busy time for our front office and it can be difficult to ensure the change is communicated to all affected in time.

Fall MAP/MPG Testing
Students within grades 2-4 will take the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) assessments, first graders take the MPG, in reading and math during the week of September 6-9, 2016. These assessments occur three times throughout the year. From these assessments, teachers receive data to influence their instruction. From assessment results, teachers are better able to create flexible groupings, adjust time spent on certain topics, provide additional scaffolding for students, set goals for class/individual growth, and reflect on teaching practices. Please be mindful of scheduling appointments, vacations or missed school days around the assessment schedule.

Reporting Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying Incidences
In an ongoing effort to provide a safe learning environment, Sycamore is requesting parents, students, and staff to inform administration (or whoever) of any perceived incidences of harassment, intimidation, or bullying.

Per the Sycamore Board of Education policy JFCF, harassment, intimidation, and bullying are defined as any provoked and intentional written, verbal, electronic or physical act that a student has exhibited toward another particular student more than once and the behavior both:

1) causes mental or physical harm to the other student
2) is sufficiently severe, persistent, or pervasive that it creates an intimidating, threatening, or abusive educational environment for the other student.

To view the complete policy, visit www.sycamoreschools.org, under the Board of Education tab, scroll down to “Policies”, search for policy “JFCF”.

Sycamore will do everything possible to address any complaints of harassment, intimidation, and bullying.

We encourage students, staff, parents, and community members to report this type of behavior to the district if help is needed to solve a problem.

To report an incident of harassment, intimidation, and bullying:
1) Go to the website,www.sycamoreschools.org
2) Under the tab “Forms”, scroll down until you see the Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying Incident Reporting Form for the individual schools.
3) Fill the form on-line and submit it electronically.
4) Hard copies of this form are available in each of the schools.

Complete the hard copy of the report form and turn it into the building Principal. The building principal or designee will promptly investigate all reported incidences.

It is difficult to investigate reported incidences that are anonymously submitted. However, every effort will be made to maintain the confidentiality of the reporter. Deliberate false reporting of harassment, intimidation, and bullying is prohibited.
